Snacking a Major Volume Opportunity
For California Almonds in Europe
In April, the Almond Board gathered together an esteemed group of European nutritionists and key media to discuss how snacking can play a beneficial role in achieving a balanced and healthful diet. The aim of the discussion was to identify practical ways in which nutritionists can motivate and facilitate a change in snacking behavior so that it is more beneficial to health. The outputs of this meeting, to be discussed in a future issue, will provide a strong foundation for communicating about almonds and snacking with consumers, health professionals and food professionals, and will further position California Almonds as a leader in the area of healthy snacking.

Traceback is the ability to track your almonds one step forward, to the huller/sheller and handler, and one step back, to the orchard. If you haven't already, establish a lot-numbering system as loads are harvested, and maintain records of lot numbers as they leave the orchard, including the harvest date. An effective traceback system can rapidly identify and isolate suspect product, minimizing the disruption of processing and marketing of your almonds. Learn more about food safety issues.
