CURES Releases Pollinator Stewardship Guide
The Coalition for Urban/Rural Environmental Stewardship (CURES) has released a new publication to help farmers and pesticide applicators reduce risk to bees from pesticide exposure.
While stressing the importance of carefully reading the pesticide label, the six-page brochure also recommends pollinator pesticide stewardship practices such as assessing the toxicity of pesticides to pollinators, understanding bee visitation habits, minimizing application drift, and enhancing communication between pesticide users and beekeepers.

ABC Staff Member Named to UC-Davis Dean's Advisory Council
The Almond Board's Bob Curtis, Associate Director of Agricultural Affairs, works very closely with the University of California in almond industry research initiatives and program development. So, it is no surprise that he was named to the UC-Davis Dean's Advisory Council for the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences. In this position, Bob can more readily advocate for the research, outreach and Extension programs of the College and University that will best serve the almond industry.
Congratulations, Bob!
VOC Calculator
The Department of Pesticide Regulation has created a free online VOC emissions calculator to help growers and PCAs determine the VOC emissions associated with a specific non-fumigant pesticide application or formulation.
In 2008, DPR enacted new rules on soil fumigant use and a cap on pesticide VOC emissions in order to meet requirements to reduce VOC emissions from pesticides in the San Joaquin Valley.
The calculator can be accessed here.

GAP Training Tools
A set of training materials is now available to help almond growers educate their workers in the application of Good Agricultural Practices in the field. The training kit contains a video, complete instructor guides in field sanitation, and teaching aids—everything you or your supervisor need to conduct training sessions in English or Spanish with field workers to be sure they understand both the why and the how of orchard sanitation.
To order a set, send e-mail to ABC or call (209) 549-8262.
