Almonds Shine at Obesity Meeting
ABC exhibited recently at the European Congress on Obesity in Amsterdam to raise awareness of the considerable nutritional and weight management benefits of almonds. Healthcare professionals had an opportunity to sign a petition at the California Almonds booth calling on food manufacturers to increase healthful ingredients in their products. Nearly 200 health professionals signed the petition, which was presented to snack manufacturers at the European Snacks Association (SnackEx) trade show in June.
ABC also sponsored a popular Satellite Symposium: Almonds – a means to achieving healthy weight management? Leading scientists Professor Arne Astrup, Professor Richard Mattes and Professor Gary Foster presented recent clinical research on the health benefits of almonds while attendees enjoyed almond appetizers.

Field sanitation during harvest is critical to minimizing potential contamination of almonds. Workers should have ready access to toilets and fully stocked hand-washing stations at all times. California state law mandates that toilets are to be placed within 1/4 mile from the field work area. Placement of portable toilets should be done in a manner that minimizes the chance of contamination to harvested almonds.
