CONSUMER RESEARCH IN INDIA REVEALS ALMONDS TRULY ARE A FAVORITE
IN ORDER TO better understand target consumers in India, the Almond Board of California conducted a comprehensive consumer Attitudes, Awareness, and Usage study in cities across the entire subcontinent this year. One of the key goals of the research was to learn about almond purchase and consumption preferences and differences within the various regions of this culturally diverse market.
Overall, the survey findings were very positive for almonds, confirming many of the common beliefs about almonds that the Board has heard during the past few years from the industry, and being active in this market. It was exciting to see that almonds stand out far and above other nuts as the favorite nut for 47% of consumers around India. Almonds are also the top pick for 45% of all respondents as the most often consumed nut, and 64% of the respondents rate them as the most nutritious nut. The ABC will use these findings to guide program strategy and expand almond consumption in this important export market.

AFLATOXIN is a toxic, cancer-causing chemical compound produced by Aspergillus mold, which results from navel orangeworm (NOW) damage. Winter sanitation is necessary to remove mummy nuts before budswell (Feb. 1) until there is an average of less than two per tree. Mummy nuts should then be destroyed by Mar. 15 by disking or flail-mowing to prevent overwintering NOW. Aflatoxin control starts with you in the orchard.
