SHOOT FOR 23!
THE ALMOND BOARD OF CALIFORNIA is sponsoring the 2009 NCAA March Madness basketball tournament, the high-profile event which garners a large Internet audience. The sponsorship includes several online touch points that are estimated to deliver approximately 23 million impressions from March 1 to April 15.
The annual March Madness tournament, which culminates Monday, April 6, is a must-see event that is a perfect opportunity to reach our health-involved male target audience in a setting where they are engaged and enthusiastic. Online viewing of the tournament has grown significantly in the past two years: 2008 data showed a 164% year-over-year growth in unique visitors and an 81% year-over-year growth in quantity of live streaming video and audio consumed. CBS exclusivity also ensures other major sports sites such as ESPN.com and Sports Illustrated will direct their viewers to CBSsports.com to see the games live.
This campaign is designed to reach the health-involved male target audience with a message that 23 almonds are the perfect snack. The 30-second commercial spot shows a professional skydiver who decides to eat his daily dose of almonds during freefall, and the message reads “However you get ’em just get ’em. Shoot for 23!” Viewers can click to www.shootfor23.com where they can learn more about almond nutrition and upload their own almond eating videos. The creative execution demands the viewers’ attention and the almond nutrition information relates specifically to this target audience. Research shows health-involved men are already eating a lot of mixed nuts, and this campaign makes almonds stand out as the nut of choice.
The 30-second commercial spot will be shown during all 63 tournament games exclusively on CBS.com. Targeted banner ads will also appear on
CBSsports.com, CBS.com and NCAA.com before and during the tournament time-frame.
