Staff from the San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District will be visiting agricultural operations holding district permits for vapor recovery systems for aboveground gasoline storage tanks.
Enhanced vapor recovery performance standards and specifications for aboveground gasoline storage tanks were adopted by the California Air Resources Board (CARB) in 2008. The new standards went into effect this April, and in the San Joaquin Valley, permitted aboveground storage tanks must have a certified coating applied and a certified enhanced recovery pressure/vacuum vent valve installed. The inspections are to confirm that these steps have been taken.
Because this is a statewide regulation, growers and processors outside the San Joaquin district may be hearing from their local air district as well.
For more information, contact your local air district field representative or your gasoline supplier, or view the CARB advisory online.
