Soil, Water Conservationists Honor Almond Board, SureHarvest

Almond Board's Bob Curtis, left, associate director,
Agricultural Affairs, and Cliff Ohmart, vice president of
Professional Services for SureHarvest, congratulate each
other on receiving awards from the Soil and Water
Conservation Society. Collaboration between ABC and
SureHarvest to develop the California Almond Sustainability
Program was an important factor in both awards.
The Almond Board of California (ABC) and SureHarvest, which manages the ABC’s California Almond Sustainability Program, were both honored at the 68th Annual International Conference of the Soil and Water Conservation Society (SWCS) held in Reno in July.

ABC was presented with the Honor Award by the California-Nevada Chapter of SWCS for collaborative research projects that have resulted in practices that foster environmental stewardship and help improve air, water and soil quality, while improving the economic viability of the California Almond industry. The chapter recognized the ABC Production Research and Environmental Committees and professional staff for leadership in partnering with the scientific community, regulators, governmental organizations and the private sector.

SureHarvest was presented with the Chapter Recognition Award by the California-Nevada Chapter of SWCS. It was recognized for its innovative work as a private sector consultant that has played a pioneering role in developing technologies and programs that have helped the agricultural industry to improve both profitability and environmental stewardship. The California Almond Sustainability Program was cited as one of SureHarvest’s accomplishments in pioneering efforts with ag industry leaders to develop programs that will play an important role in protecting soil and water resources for future generations.
