The Almond Board of California (ABC) Industry Services Committee has seven members and seven alternates. Committee members include growers, handlers, food safety experts and farm equipment manufacturers.
The purpose of this committee is to develop and oversee industry communications and educational programs administered by the Board to address the needs and interests of the supply side of the almond industry. The committee also recommends to the Board those leadership and outreach initiatives that encourage diversity and promote industry stakeholder participation in Board efforts.
The California Almond Sustainability Program is a significant effort of this committee. While ABC’s Environmental and Production Research Committees help to determine specific module
topics and industry-standard questions, the Industry Services Committee oversees the outreach of the program to California Almond growers and handlers, encouraging grower and handler participation.
The committee also oversees the California Almond Leadership Program. This program encourages individuals within the almond industry to participate in leadership training and to take a leadership role in the future of the California Almond industry.
In addition to these programs, the Industry Services Committee advises staff who work with communications agencies and services to provide industry members with almond-related
news and information, and to provide outreach to local communities. This includes The Almond Conference, industry newsletters such as California Almonds Outlook and The Handle, website content, collateral literature and videos, and special projects such as “The Almond Story” activity book and video for use in schools.
