As in years past, Almond Board of California (ABC) had a strong presence at Experimental Biology 2013, in Boston, Mass., April 19–24. The annual meeting of nearly 13,000 scientists and exhibitors in the biological sciences, Experimental Biology is the primary U.S. scientific conference at which ABC-funded nutrition
research is presented annually. This year, four ABC-funded researchers presented preliminary data from almond-only studies related to type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular risk factors including serum cholesterol and blood pressure. Claire Berryman (Penn State) competed as a finalist for the prestigious Clinical Emerging
Leaders Award, presenting preliminary data from her current ABC-funded research project looking at the effects of almond intake on serum cholesterol levels. Dr. Karen Lapsley, Becky Sereno and Jenny Heap attended Experimental Biology on behalf of ABC.
