Owners of agricultural trucks are reminded to record their odometer readings by Jan. 31, 2013, and report those to the California Air Resources Board (CARB) to maintain their agricultural exemption. Many agricultural truck owners applied for and qualified for these exemptions, which require reporting annual mileage.
CARB recently issued a reminder that trucks with 2000 to 2004 model-year engines must be retrofitted by Jan. 31, 2013, unless an exemption applies. Penalties start at a minimum of $1,000 per violation per month and increase significantly over time. Last year, similar requirements took effect for 1996–1999 model year engines, and nearly $2 million in fines were assessed in the first nine months of 2012.
More information on how to comply with the truck and bus regulation is available at the ARB website, or by phone at (866) 6DIESEL or email.
