In fall 2011, the American Heart Association (AHA) certified almonds — based on their nutrient profile — to display the signature Heart-Check mark. The Almond Board of California has renewed its license agreement this year, so handlers may continue to take advantage of the discount afforded through this agreement to certify branded products.
As more handlers take advantage of this program, consumers will increasingly see almond products on supermarket shelves that bear the familiar Heart-Check mark. The Heart-Check symbol is the most consumer-trusted nutrition icon appearing on packaged foods. According to research conducted by AHA, more than half of shoppers use the mark as a deciding factor when choosing to purchase a new product.*
