Almond Handling and Processing
After harvest, the first trip California Almonds make is to the huller/sheller, where the tough, outer hull is removed and field debris is separated out. If the nuts are to be sold in-shell, there is no further processing. Otherwise, the nuts are then shelled and delivered to the handler for sorting, grading, and possible further processing before they are ready for the market.
