Voluntary Aflatoxin Sampling Plan (VASP)

The Almond Board of California has developed a Voluntary Aflatoxin Sampling Plan (VASP) program. Participation in the program reduces the level of aflatoxin inspection and controls for consignments shipped to EU member countries. By participating in the VASP program, handlers agree to follow provisions that are stipulated in a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). The program is built upon defined sampling practices and Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) principles to address aflatoxin control. The program is substantiated through past and current research which focuses on understanding aflatoxin development and control.
